Reflexive verbs

Verbtime uses the rules listed here to build reflexive verbs.

  1. Verbtime recognises reflexive verbs from the syntax: sich + verb, e.g. "sich freuen" => "ich habe mich gefreut" or "sich begegnen" => "ich bin mir begegnet".
  2. Accusative-reflexive verbs (Singular I/II is built with "mich/dich"), are always conjugated using auxiliary verb "haben", e.g. "ich habe mich rasiert" ("wen hast du rasiert?" => "mich").
  3. Dative-reflexive verbs (Singular I/II is built with "mir/dir"), can either be conjugated with auxiliary verb "haben" or "sein", depending on, whether the verb itself is conjugated with "haben" or "sein", e.g. "sich danken" => "ich habe mir gedankt" ("wem hast du gedankt?" => "mir"), however "sich begegnen" => "ich bin mir begegnet" ("wem bist du begegnet?" => "mir").
  4. Verbtime always builds the reflexive verbs like real reflexive verbs, which means "ich => mich", "du => dich", er => sich" and so on.
With real reflexive verbs the reflexive pronoun and the personal pronoun are always referring to the same person, e.g. "ich freue mich", but not "ich freue euch". With unreal reflexive verbs, the person can differ, for example "ich wasche mich", "ich wasche dich", and so on.
