Rule VIII: (ß,ss) - ß-replacement


 VIII.Abbreviation:(ß,ss) - ß-replacement
 
Description: Replacement of "ß" by "ss" for strong verbs, whose verb primitive ends on "ß"
 
Example verb: 11.reißen
 
Application: - only valid for strong verbs
- the verb primitive ends on "ß"
- this rule applies only if the Präteritum is not built with "ie" (e.g. not valid for "heißen", as this becomes "hieß" and not "hiess")
- the Indikativ Präteritum, Konjunktiv II (Präteritum) as well as the Partizip II change the "ß" to "ss"
