Rule VI: (ff,f), (ll,l), (mm,m), (tt,t) - double consonant I


 VI.Abbreviation:(ff, f), (ll, l), (mm, m), (tt, t) - avoiding double consonants
 
Description: Avoiding double consonants for strong verbs, that end on "ff", "ll", "mm" or "tt"
 
Example verb: 9.schaffen (Partizip II: rule does not apply)
bitten (Partizip II: rule applies for "tt"-verbs)
 
Application: - only valid for strong verbs
- the verb primitive ends on "ff", "ll", "mm" or "tt"
- the Indikativ Präteritum and Konjunktiv II (Präteritum) as well as Partizip II (only for tt) leave out an "f", "l", "m" respectively "t"

Partizip: -
 
  Applies for (strong verbs):
Präsens:-
Präteritum: all forms
Konj II (Prät): all forms
Imperativ: -
Partizip: only for verbs ending on "tt"
 
  Example:
Präteritum: "du schufst", not "du schuffst"
Partizip II: "schaffen" => "geschaffen", not "geschafen"
Compare: "bitten" => "gebeten", not "gebetten"
